This is our take on the lifestyle of the future

Stedsans is not just a restaurant and forest resort, it is also our take on a lifestyle with respect for and in sync with nature.

We call it the beautiful solution - and these are some of the elements:

The work in our gardens is based on regenerative/permaculture farming principles. We use no poison, we are water neutral, have no food waste, work with a healthy, living soil and give a forest a value for being a forest.

Topsoil is the part of the Earth where we can grow food. Furthermore, it holds a lot of CO2. We grow in a way that builds up topsoil using material from the forest and not leaving the soil to be bare.

All cabins have their own outdoor compost toilet made in local larch, a type of wood that smells nice. It builds up topsoil instead of flushing shit out with clean drinking water. Once in a while, the compost toilets are emptied and - after a certain process - used as nutrients for parts of our garden operations. Keeping the nutrients where they are consumed is an important part of the permaculture/holistic living philosophy as it helps to close the natural cycle of life and death that is the foundation for new life.

In an environment with no toxic chemicals, there is no waste. No water is used for the toilets, whereas the sinks run on lake water. Our guests shower in the outdoor showers running on lake water and heated with sawdust, or directly in the lake. All water go straight back to the forest, and therefore we provide all-natural 100% biodegradable plant extract toiletries as we want the forest to be a poison-free zone. That means that we can pump all water (even from the restaurant) into the lake or to our fields. Furthermore, we water our gardens with saved rainwater from our well.

By visiting us, you will leave a very small carbon footprint behind you and will contribute to the natural life cycle of this place.

We call it the beautiful solution.
